Due to terrible gun laws in Canada I have allways needed to find ways to protect myself without being able to be easily prosecuted.
here are some thing that i have found
Small metal hammer
I have found that this can be used quite effectivly as a kobutan (sp?). It does have some drawbacks. Its very light and will only do damage if you have a shitload of martial arts experience.
Knife
Quite an obvious choice. Everyone can find a knife to suit their need. I personally carry a cheap knife I got from Canadian tire. It is sharp and small. It can be hidden in many places on my person and is pretty damn intimidating for such a small knife.
Flashlight
A good quality flashlight as do MAJOR damage. The police type flashlights can be bought in anywhere from the souce(radioshack) to dollarr stores. If you live in an area like mine that has really shitty weapons laws, this is a great one.
Baton
Another illegal weapon in Canada. You could easily buy a baton but they can be made with basic tools for little to nothing. They area effective in the areas of intimidation and concealability.
Does anyone else have reviews of make-shift weapons that they would like to share?

Hammer's are lethal.
Dont use them if you dont wish to face repurcussions...
A baseball bat with nails in it. Lethal but has done me wonders...
